About Us: How it Began

A journey into slow living, science, and sustainable beauty

Some journeys begin in loud, fast-paced moments. Mine started in stillness, in the quiet hours between a career that no longer aligned with my values and the slow rediscovery of doing something with my hands. I began making natural, handmade soap as both a creative outlet and a return to something simpler, something real.

With a background in science and a deep love for nature, I was drawn to the process of cold process soapmaking. It was a blend of alchemy and intention: mixing plant-based oils, clays, and essential oils with care and precision. As someone who lives with hormone sensitivities and has a daughter with eczema, I wanted something I could trust on our skin — no synthetic fragrances, no preservatives, no palm oil — just simple, earth-friendly ingredients.

Over time, what started as a personal ritual became a philosophy of living. I now create small-batch, sustainable soap here in New Zealand — made by hand, cured slowly, and designed to support the planet, your skin and spirit.

Each bar reflects a love for slow, intentional living and a desire to bring everyday rituals back to their roots.  I use a centuries old method, and one originating in ancient civilisations where saponification was discoverd when ash was combined with oils

Modt shampoos, body washes, and even soaps are detergents, designed for cutting through grease and dirt.  This is great for cleaning dirty pots, but not great for preserving the natural oils and environment our skin needs.

My soap is for those who are tired of mass-produced skincare, who care about what goes into their homes, and who want to live more gently on the earth. It’s for people who read ingredient labels. Who value quality over quantity. Who believe that even the smallest objects — like a bar of soap — can bring peace, presence, and beauty into our day.

I’m still uncovering the quiet magic in these soaps. Just yesterday, I found that our coffee scrub bar doesn’t just lift soil after a day in the garden — it gently washes away paint too. These small discoveries remind me that soap can be more than routine. It’s a slow kind of luxury — a way to watch the day’s work slip away, one lather at a time. I hope to share that with others who find comfort in the simple, useful beauty of everyday things.

My intention is for every bar to bring a little stillness into your day. A pause. A reminder that what we use, what we choose, and how we live...

It all matters
